Mystery of Becoming

24”x36”| Mixed Media on Canvas

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
Joseph Campbell

This piece is a visual meditation on growth, emergence, and soul transformation — a portrait of what unfolds when we surrender to becoming. Layered with both softness and strength, the painting pulses with freshness, tenderness, and the luminous tension between what is breaking apart and what is breaking through.

At its heart, the roses sing of the jeweled beauty of cathedral stained glass — yet with a touch of abstract expressionism and high-contrast design. It glows amidst fractured light and raw edges, evoking the sacred and joyful confusion of transformation. There is a sense of bursting forth, of shedding old skins — leather, hide, history — to make room for new life.

The composition speaks not only to duality — body and spirit, known and unknown — but to the mystical third: the living relationship between them. In all that we are connected to, there is ourselves, the other, and the sacred presence that exists in-between.

Both devotional image and contemplative presence, The Mystery of Becoming invites pause within the luminous space of unfolding.
