Past, Present, Future I Empowered Vision
This painting is part of the Seven Valleys of Summer series, a collection of mystical landscapes I created during a particularly intense chapter in my life.
Landscape? You might ask. Yes, in fact,it was my favorite from the outset. It was a desert scene I labored over for a while as you can see from the pictures. But as promising as it started, I just couldn't make it work as what I wanted it to be.
This happens with paintings not infrequently. I keep thinking I know best until it wrestles my creative energies to the ground and I surrender. The painting always knows so much better what it's meant to be than I do.
The desert became this enigmatic, oceanic woman. People often remark that she looks like me. Perhaps she is a mirror of what my spirit can become. She is wise, kind and empowered.
If you look for it, you can still see the desert behind her. It's as if that is the past, giving her her mystery, she stands in the present (as we do looking upon her) as she gazes upon our futures. Her eyes twinkle with the vision.
